Medical and cryogenic transport

Medical and cryogenic transport of biological material and embryos in liquid nitrogen vapour: local pickups in Warsaw and international routes.

Service scope

Medical and cryogenic transport: scope and terms.

Every order is verified individually based on route, dates, cargo parameters and special requirements.

An order starts with the transport conditions

Before quoting, we establish the type of material, the required conditions, pickup and handover points, the date, and the responsibilities of each party. We carry consignments in the shipper’s cryogenic containers; on request we can also agree the use of an EVS container — feasibility and conditions are confirmed before quoting.

Information needed for a quote

  • pickup and delivery locations;
  • date and time window;
  • type of material and how it is prepared;
  • required conditions and documents;
  • a contact person on both sides of the transport.

Local and international journeys

Enquiries may cover local pickups in Warsaw as well as routes abroad — in Europe (e.g. Brussels) and beyond (e.g. New York), where we combine the road leg with air transport organised in cooperation with the shipper. For each route we check the actual transport option and the formal requirements.

What to know before you enquire

  • Classification is the shipper’s responsibility. According to GOV.UK, the shipper classifies category B biological material as UN 3373 and packs it under instruction P650: a primary receptacle, secondary packaging and outer packaging, at least one of which is rigid; for liquids, absorbent material and resistance to a pressure of 95 kPa are added.
  • A dry shipper is a container with nitrogen absorbed in a porous material. The shipper is responsible for charging the container and states the holding time; we plan the route and handover within that window. If the use of an EVS container is agreed, responsibility for charging and the holding time are written into the order before pickup.
  • Air transport rules (IATA DGR, special provision A152) apply to dry shippers on aircraft. ADR applies to road carriage — we confirm the requirements for a specific consignment with the shipper before carrying it out.

We describe the process in more detail in the article on UN 3373 and dry shippers (Polish only).

Frequently asked questions

Medical and cryogenic transport — questions and answers

General answers. Details of each order are always confirmed individually.

Does EVS classify and package biological material?
No. Classification (e.g. UN 3373, category B) and packaging in line with instruction P650 are the shipper’s responsibility. With the shipper and the consignee we agree the handover points, time window, accompanying documents and how we communicate during the journey.
What is a dry shipper and can it be carried by road?
It is a container in which liquid nitrogen is absorbed in a porous material; as a rule it does not spill or build up pressure, but this depends on the container’s design, which is assessed by the shipper and the manufacturer. The holding time depends on the model and on how it was charged, and is confirmed by the shipper. We agree the conditions of each carriage individually.
Does the driver need ADR qualifications for UN 3373 consignments?
According to the UK interpretation of ADR (GOV.UK), a consignment correctly packaged and marked in line with P650 does not require a driver with ADR qualifications or plates on the vehicle. ADR applies in Poland — the final requirements follow from the classification made by the shipper and are confirmed before the order.
What information speeds up a quote for medical transport?
Pickup and handover locations, date and time window, type of material and how it is prepared, required documents, and contact persons on both sides. See the list of enquiry details.
